Description:

In the face of disaster, the ability to swiftly coordinate search and rescue efforts is critical. This course is designed to equip participants with the skills needed to play various roles in large-scale search and rescue operations, from field work to strategic planning.

While the course is centered around the dynamics of major search and rescue missions post-disaster, its teachings are applicable across a spectrum of emergencies including missing persons cases, natural disasters, and even terrorist incidents.

Participants will delve into a search management system emphasizing resource efficiency and thorough documentation, essential for conducting operations smoothly. Through engaging discussions, hands-on activities, and tabletop exercises led by seasoned instructors from FEMA US&R, State, municipal, and Volunteer teams, attendees will gain practical insights and skills rooted in real-world scenarios.

The culmination of the course is a three-day event featuring a tabletop exercise where participants must apply their newfound knowledge to tackle a simulated incident from start to finish in a single operational period.

With guidance from experienced instructors who have navigated some of the nation’s most challenging rescue missions, participants will emerge equipped to make meaningful contributions in times of crisis.
